Randomness 2011 Style

If you type in 'Black Swan' into Netflix it will tell you that you might also like films such as, 'In Bruges' and 'Fight Club'.  While I haven't seen 'Black Swan' that certainly tells me quite a lot about it right there. It's on the list now.

James Franco might only be co-hosting the Oscars this year (so far) but I wouldn't be surprised if he was also trying to pull a "Pinky and Brain" on us.  With that secretive smile that guy is everywhere these days. General Hospital, losing an arm in 127 Hours, slathering on the makeup in Candy and writing a book. Somehow I still think of him as Daniel from 'Freaks and Geeks'.

Speaking of the Oscars, does anyone else think that Anne Hathaway co-hosting the event is a bit bizarre?  They may be trying to reach a younger audience but I don't get her charm and appeal.  If it weren't for Franco I would probably bail on the event this year.

Raise your hand if you think Dick Clark should step down from the NYE gig for good.  That's what I thought. You may all put your hands down now.

Things You Might Not Know

Dude, what is with the Facebook 25 Random Things About Me disease. Hey Kids! Everyone is doing it! Except me. Who has time for that? Here's five-

1. I sucked my thumb until I was ten. Yeah, that's right. It's cool. Not cool though was the four retainers, two sets of head gear and all the other orthodontia I had to have because I had bucked teeth worse than Melissa Gilbert when she was on Little House on the Prairie. I kid you not.

2. I have size ten feet. I can't walk up stairs normally. I have to go sideways half the time. Especially in heels.

3. I have a black thumb. Plants should not be brought into my abode. Not unless they consider themselves Dead Plant Walking.

4. Once I woke up in the middle of the night and all the skin on my body shed. It was like I turned into a snake overnight. It was disgusting, disconcerting and absolutely fascinating. Except when H woke up and realized he was sleeping with a lot of shed skin. He was not amused.

I'm sorry did you just puke in your coffee cup? Lucky bastard, you are drinking coffee.

5. When I was in high school I used to like to find back roads, park my car and get out and walk. E would accompany me. We lived in the smallest state in the country. We needed to find something to do after school that didn't involve joining a structured activity. I loathe structured activities.

To quote TD, "Now you play." Just put a random fact about you in the comment section. Let's all join in!!

I'll Get There at Some Point

It's a beautiful snowy day here in the 'burbs. There's no school. Dash Two is teething and TD and I have a cold. I'm trying to stay positive but there was little sleep to be had in my house by me last night. I just couldn't stay asleep and for no good reason other than my brain was whirring away on mindless junk.

Today is day one on the meds my doctor prescribed. I'll take them for a month to see how it all goes. I just have one thing to say though, if one more person tells me I need to "just get more sleep and hit the gym." I'm going to cover them with brain goo because my head really will have exploded. Seriously? That's all I need to do? How about the fact that when I think of loading the kids in the car right now, the two hours it takes me to get out the door and lugging that heavy baby carrier around, my brain gets fuzzy and I have to shut my eyes to keep from having some sort of meltdown. I just can't deal with it right now. I need quiet, and yes, more sleep. I need a schedule for Dash Two and less going on in my life. When I think about scheduling appointments for me with a therapists and a psychiatrist like my doctor told me to do I get all panicky and can't figure out how it will all work. "There isn't enough time in the day!" my brain screams.

I will have to hire a sitter which I'm not sure we can afford and then that sends me into a tailspin of more guilt and uber-sucktastickness. The negativity is exuding off me and the anger is there today. I've turned into post-partum Darth Vader. I hate that I can't wrap my brain around it in some Zen like cocoon and push it away. It just ain't happening yet. But I feel pressure to be well already. Like one day of meds and the switch is flipped. Presto Chango! All better! I envy the women who never have to deal with this.

People tell me I need to be around more people to relax and take my mind off things but the last thing I want is a progressive dinner or potluck to prepare for or to head off to the store to buy even more vitamins. What's with the vitamins people? Why do people keep telling me about vitamins!?! I'm going to start hurling giant bottles of fish oil and vitamin B at passing cars soon.

I will say this - the support I've received from you all has been outstanding. I cannot get over it and it has helped me more than anything else so far. I appreciate it and it makes my days brighter. I know it will get better. I will get better. Next week I might even feel like going to the gym again. I just have to take it one day at a time right now and have faith. Lattes and Life has faith in me. She sent me this beautiful award and it made me cry. The Nobel Award is for Motherhood. It's an award for being a wonderful mom, for doing wonderful work, and to remind me to be proud of my accomplishment.

Thank you so much Tiffany- you have always given me support even when we were just little online support group friends (girlfriends of Marines y'all) back in our SoCal days.

And to think this was going to be a post about random stuff you might not know about me. Well here you go- I punch people in the face who try to give me throat cultures. It's like a reflex that I can't control. My current doctor has it in my chart not to do them. He has said, "I'm not a masochist. Here's your strep throat meds."

P.S. I wrote another car review. Calling all automakers- let me review your cars- I love this stuff! Check it out here at Autosavant.

Things You Might Not Know

I've been a delinquent blogger as of late.

My mother is in town to help out a bit and also to 'Surprise!' me with a shower courtesy of my MIL and SIL too. I confess, I already knew about it. It was at my house after all. Can I just say, a fantastic job was done all around at this fete this past Saturday? From the tiniest details of caramel apple favors, the fall colors, little pumpkins, a fantastic two-tiered beyond delish cake and all the food and my friends- it was just everything I could have hoped for. It's just been a bit busy and my house is over run with baby stuff again. Let the organizing and further nesting begin!

That being said, it's the latest edition (or first, baby brain prohibits me from actually remembering) of "Things You Might Not Know About Me" -

1. One of my favorite songs is 'Slow Ride' by Foghat. Alright, Alright....I know. I can't believe it either but each time I hear it or obsessively play it on the pod I become the biggest dork. It fits almost nothing else in my personality. As if I ever take it easy.

2. I have size 10 feet. It's the only thing I have in common with Paris Hilton besides our dyed hair. Do you even know what a bitch it is to walk up stairs in size 10 heels? You have to walk sideways half the time.

3. I've never eaten a chili dog. I've had maybe one corn dog in my lifetime. Nothing against the lowly hot dog but the idea of putting anything else on it besides ketchup, mustard and a toasted bun is abhorrent.

4. When I'm angry I like to watch Apocalypse Now and recite the lines along with the movie. "Saigon... shit. I'm still only in Saigon." You get the idea. Somehow bodies hanging from trees, crazy men in caves shaving their head and napalm calms me down.

5. I wanted to start my own fight club. I possibly have violent tendencies.

6. The colors fuchsia and teal should never be combined in my presence unless you want me to start having horrific 80s flashbacks. Triple-layered slouch socks anyone? How about a teal track suit or stir-up pants with a sweatshirt painted with puffy paint.

7. I have never seen any of the Nightmare on Elm St., Friday the 13th or Halloween movies. They scare me.

8. Casserole is a dirty word. Don't make it for me, surprise me with it or anything. I don't care how good you think it is - it's casserole. A.K.A. crap you wouldn't serve alone but combined and looking like dog vomit it's OK as a meal. No, it's really not. Just stop with the casserole.

9. I lived in Texas for 3 weeks. Banal, but true.

10. I am an only child. I talk to myself a lot. It drives H batty but I can't stop doing it. If left alone long enough I probably sound just like TD or your kid when he or she is playing alone.

It's a Freakin' Bonanza Today. OK I Lie.

Without getting all Debbie Downer on you all I'm keeping this brief. I'm going on a return visit to the collision center with my car. I have a bone to pick with them and they better let me bend their ear. Seems that my shiny new high gloss bumper (that got rear-ended a month ago) is now permanently ATTACHED to my gate latch. That would be the trunk on my SUV. Yup. Can't open it. At. all. Is Stuck.

Am. Livid.

Was really pissy on Friday night when I was out in the rain trying to crawl around feeling for the emergency latch to open the gate and put the stroller back in while T.D. cried and then poured milk on herself. Awesome times indeed.

Add to that the fact that now the car thinks a door is open continuously and I am hating my car right now and can frequently be heard mumbling about the Murphey's Law of it all. I feel like I'm miming for my neighbors about how to open a trunk each time I go to my car.

So I'm pulling a Sarah today. Answer the following questions in the comment section below.

1. Where was your first date?

2. Worst movie ever?

3. Favorite television show as a kid?

It's The Random Facts Edition

I was asked to list ten random facts about me in an interview recently (I'm as shocked as you that someone wanted to interview me) and since it is Friday, my WIFI is still messed up and now I have a lovely sty taking up residence and taking over my right eye, I'm taking it easy to day-

Random Facts About Me- (because I'm that fascinating)

I believe in E.T.'s

I hate the dark.

I love fluffernutter sandwiches, especially for breakfast when training for the Avon Walk.

I wish I played the bass violin.

I have been a Titanic nut since I was nine which also makes me never want to take a cruise nor do I like deep ocean water.

I have medium skills but please don't ask me if your Aunt Mildred is nearby or if you have a ghost in your house. It doesn't really work like that.

I prefer purses over shoes. In fact, I hate shoe shopping in general. Does that make me less of a girl?

I work best early in the morning.

I am not good at math. It is laughable and yet very sad how bad I am at it. So let's keep laughing...

I've been a bridesmaid more times than I like to recount. I could have been in 27 Dresses at this point.

I think I could take Ann Coulter in a fight. That woman's massive amount of hatred for life in general makes me think I could break her in seconds flat.

I want to like Hilary but I just can't.

I could listen to Daniel Day Lewis read a dictionary and think it was Oscar worthy.

Alright I need coffee. Go forth, comment, share your random facts or thoughts. I know you have some good ones!
