Taking Time for the National Day of Service and Rememberance
What are your plans for tomorrow?
It's National Day of Service and Remembrance, a day where many individuals and organizations (think nonprofit, employers and faith based groups, etc) around the country will work together to perform good deeds in observance of the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Maybe you are remembering someone dear or taking part in the 2996 project. Here in our house we'll be throwing in a bit of this-

You get a little girl who is taking the contents of her piggy bank and donating it all to a local charity. We've narrowed it down to two places- her annual Christmas charity or the nearby ACTS organization. TD has two piggy banks - one for her savings and the other for charity. It's what she decided to do upon acquiring the second piggy bank this year. My heart squeezed when she announced this as I had no idea she knew to do this type of thing. I guess having her help me donate clothes, color placemats for the House of Ruth holiday dinners and more has already rubbed off. I stand amazed and incredibly proud.

ReplyDeleteI will be breaking out of normal "work clothes" and wearing a DTRS shirt in support of all my brothers and sisters who lost their lives 8 years ago (as I do every year). I will most specifically be thinking of my fellow member Jeff Simpson who lost his life that day and will say a prayer for him and his family.
Wow, very impressed by your little girl early understanding of helping and giving others. I have two girls, 4 and 8 years old, and so far, they still don't quite understand the concept of helping others. It's such a valuable life lesson to instill in kids and I will share your story with my girls to help them.
