Disney on Ice- Pure Bliss

They say "Go Big or Go Home."  Well, I believe that sometimes you just have to go "Princess!"  Full on Disney on Ice- Princess Wishes.

Disney on Ice and Me

I'm just going to be up front about this. Yes, I was a Disney fan as a kid. Sunday night family movies from Disney made me excited beyond belief. I could not contain my face-cracking smiles and hysteria over meeting the big mouse himself on our family trip to Disney World when I was five.

I even had a Mickey Mouse watch in high school. It was leather with a gold on gold face. Subtle, you know? I once ate at Burger King every week for a month just to score all the Jack Skellington 'Nightmare Before Christmas' watches.

When I got into my angsty young adulthood Disney, it's corporations and princesses smacked of everything I was against. "No rescue!" I would yell at the princesses that glossed the movie and television screens only to have them stare back at me blankly as they multiplied like Easter rabbits. Being "down with the system and the man" was what I was all about.

Then I had kids. People who knew me smirked and told me how suddenly my home would be filled with tiny plastic Disney gear and it would be like the Mouse himself had vomited onto my beige den carpet. I continued to feel otherwise and proved them wrong. That is until my three year-old daughter hit school age and now no matter what she has become knowledgeable about Disney, simply through attending birthday parties and school.

And it's a good thing- in moderation. We've watched 'The Little Mermaid', 'Sleeping Beauty' and 'Cinderella' right along with 'The Jungle Book', 'The Aristocats' and a host of other Disney movies on our "Friday Night Movie" night. She still doesn't own any clothing, toys or gear from Disney but I find I cannot deny her the happiness I felt as a child when these movies transported me into a "whole new world". The songs, the vibrant colors and lessons are beautiful, fun and pretty safe for her to take part in. The princess complex I obsess about - well, that's where parenting and guidance comes in. Moderation is key, of course.

When Feld Entertainment and Mom Central asked me if I would like to participate in promoting and reviewing Disney on Ice- Celebrations. I have to admit I got excited. I always wanted to attend an event like that as a kid, but my small town didn't host them. Just the thought of seeing TD's face light up as she watches her favorite characters come to life on the ice is more than enough for me. I'll survive and enjoy it too simply because it will make her happy. Besides, I hear Jack Skellington might be there and some wicked queens too! I have always preferred Ursula the Sea Witch and that crew to any of the princesses.
